Amazon’s Kindles are undergoing their first major interface redesign. It is common for Kindle e-book readers to receive new software updates regularly, in most cases focused on performance improvements and bug fixes. With the most recent update of the operating system (version 5.13.7), users who have an Amazon e-book will receive the first update of the interface since 2016.
The software update that enables the new interface began to be implemented in August and is available in most of the Kindles put on sale from 2015, that is, from the eighth generation onwards in the case of devices. Kindle, seventh generation onwards in the case of the Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Oasis.
What news does it include?
Amazon has announced that both the home screens and the Kindle library will have a new look in the coming weeks. Aspect that will facilitate navigation on the devices, being simpler and more intuitive. For example, adjusting the brightness, activating airplane mode or accessing all the settings will be possible by simply sliding the upper part of the screen down. In addition, it includes a new browser at the bottom to easily access the Home of the Library or the book you are reading at the moment.
The Library screen will include a new filter and menus that make it easier to organize your favorite books, as well as a new collections view and an interactive scroll bar. On the other hand, on the Home screen, users can add up to 20 recently read books by simply swiping to the left.
These improvements are in addition to the reading updates that Kindle has made throughout the year, such as increasing the download speed to open a book or showing the screen of the book you are reading with the screen locked in the case of copies that do not they have ads.
