The Kindles, the kings of digital reading

The Kindle is undoubtedly the quintessential electronic book . Amazon launched its first device in 2007 and since then sales have only gone up like foam. Of that first team, yes, there is very little left: it was a rather large (and heavy) device, with a built-in keyboard and little storage memory.

Many versions later (we are already in the tenth generation) we currently have three models available to buy: the Kindle, the Kindle Paperwhite and the Kindle Oasis.

Depending on your needs, tastes and, above all, a portfolio, you can choose between one or the other (between the most basic and the most expensive there is a difference of 160 euros, which is said soon), but they all have something in common: they are the perfect team Carrying lots of books with you helps save money in the long run (ebooks are cheaper than print editions) and offers a similar driving environment .

Precisely for this third quality is why today we give you these tips, which are no more than some adjustment indications to make on your Kindle (whatever the model is) and thus make the most of it. There will be no reading to resist you.

Tricks to optimize your Kindle

Here are some tips to get more out of your Kindle and to get it ready. Some of them you will already know and others may be new to you. Put them into practice and enjoy your team much more.

Customize the reading format

This is a basic but there are still many people who still do not know that they can modify various aspects of the reading format to put it to their liking. From the typeface to the separation between lines: everything can be changed at your whim:

  1. Go into any book you have on your Kindle and once inside, tap at the top of the screen.
  2. A top bar will appear and you will read “Aa Appearance of the page”. Play there.
  3. In the drop-down you can choose if you want a Compact, Standard or Large line spacing.
  4. By tapping on “Font and Page Settings” you can modify Font, Page, Reading and Themes as you like.

In Font you can choose between 9 different ones, if you want more or less bold and the size. In Page, in addition to line spacing, you can modify the margins, the reading orientation and the text alignment. In Reading the idea is that you choose what information you want to see about the book (the page number, the remaining time, none of these options) as well as whether you want the time to be visible during reading or not.

Finally in Themes you can either choose one by default or save all these options that you have adjusted in a new theme that you can even name.

Once all this has been modified, you can leave by tapping on the cross in the corner of the open window.

Choose how to view the display screen

Font size and formatting are one thing , page layout and display are another . On the Kindle, there are two options , in fact: Default and Large. The first is the one that comes by default and uses the size of Kindle fonts, images and standard designs.

The Grande, meanwhile, slightly increases the size of the text and the key images, worse, shows less content on the main screens of the device. It is a matter of testing and seeing which one you feel most comfortable with.

Review the vocabulary

Everyone knows that if you hold down a word while reading on the Kindle, it shows you its definition. What not so many people know is that these words are saved and you can consult them whenever you want. Whichever screen you are on, you can always touch the three dots in the upper right corner and enter ” Review vocabulary “.

There you will see the list of all the words you have searched, being able to read the definition of each one again and even the fragment of the book in which you read it. You can also view them in the so-called Memo Cards, to consult the words directly in the context in which you read them and check if you have already learned them (if so, you can touch “Mark as Learned” to move them to the section of words learned”).

Check your underlines online

Underlining a fragment of a book is one of the greatest pleasures we can have with books read on Kindle. What few people know is that these fragments, in addition to having them in our electronic reader, are also stored in the cloud, in a kind of Kindle file, associated with our name, which you can consult whenever you want by entering this link .

Use it to read pages online

Yes, in addition to reading books, on your Kindle you can read articles that you are on the Internet browsing and that you want to leave for later. For this, yes, you must install an extension in your browser (it is available for Chrome and Firefox) that will be in charge of sending what you want to your device in seconds.

Just install the extension, follow the simple configuration steps that you are prompted and ready. Now all you have to do is click on the “Send to Kindle” button whenever you want, view the content to be synchronized and confirm. In no way will it appear on your Kindle, in the Library, as a document other than being able to open and read (and even underline!).

· Better battery management

Although the battery of the Kindle is in itself quite good. You can always stretch even further with a few tips and tricks:

  • Turn off the Wifi if you are not going to use it
  • Manage screen brightness / light : if it’s daytime, turn it off or keep it to a minimum
  • If instead of touching the power / lock button, when you stop reading, to put the screen protector on, you turn it off completely, something else you save. How? Leaving this button pressed until a small menu appears where you can choose ” Turn off screen “.

Happy reading.
