Amazon has screwed up the best alternative to Google Photos

Until now, Amazon Photos has positioned itself as one of the best alternatives to Google Photos, especially since it is a service that has unlimited cloud storage, something for which it is characterized. However, with the new update this could change.

Amazon has screwed up the best alternative to Google Photos

Amazon’s famous photo app needed an update, and now that they’ve made it a reality, it has managed to become a disaster. Something similar had already happened with Amazon Prime Music, and now the new design of the app is causing numerous complaints among its users.

In the Google Play Store reviews we can find a number of negative opinions about updating a service that in itself needed an improvement because it was completely out of date until then. This doesn’t seem to happen in the version for iOS devices, like the iPhone, so it seems exclusive to the Android app.

The new design has removed functionality from the service

Its most modern and new design on Android does not satisfy its users because it brings with it numerous problems. More and more people have decided to take the plunge and have found that what should be an improvement in their service had actually ruined everything.

Among the complaints, we can find that it is too over designed and confusing, that you cannot select images and add them to the albums, you cannot rotate the mobile to see the photos horizontally and vertically, it is more difficult to find the images of certain dates and much more.

Accessing and uploading to images has been complicated ever since. Some users also complain that it’s slow or that they have to delete photos twice because it doesn’t differentiate those from the cloud from those on the device, or that they don’t know where the deleted photos end up.

Many users of the service think that they have thought more about a modern design than about the functionality of the app. Many elements of the app no longer work correctly, have ceased to exist, or are causing problems. You can no longer see the possibility of doing a selective load. For this reason, they have rated it on Google Play as a star, surely because they cannot score with any.

Some of the complaints from Amazon Photos users

One user complains that the new interface has broken the service , an opinion that is echoed by many others:

The recent redesign of the app, while looking modern, has sadly left it completely unusable. It is no longer completely intuitive or useful to use. All browsing feels wrong and unfamiliar. I really miss selective uploading from the local gallery like it used to be possible. A severe loss of functionality, which I am currently compensating for on the computer browser with Amazon Drive with drag and drop from the file system.

Photo uploading has gotten worse and everything is more confusing:

You can no longer just select and add images to albums. Because it is difficult to upload the photos (or better, you have to upload them before). But at least you don’t have access to all the images anymore and, in general, everything has become more confusing. After all, images can no longer be edited or displayed in landscape format. It’s amazing how it can remove very few good features until the unusable rating is achieved.

This user also misses many features:

Disappointment… After the last update, the app has lost a lot of functionality. Before, many more things could be done that have now been lost and at least for me they were important. It gave value to the app. I think that sometimes taking a step back is a victory… and that is what the creators of this app should do. Take a step back and leave it as it was before, with a slight face lift if you want to modernize the app but that’s it. No more. Don’t screw up something that worked so well.

They have ‘broken’ the option to go to a distant date :

In the new look, you have loaded the best thing that Amazon Photos had: the possibility of going to a date far in the past without making an endless scroll and loading the previews of the intermediate dates on the mobile. When you’re looking for a photo and you know it’s from a year away, the old system was better, because you could jump to 2017 in the blink of an eye, or go year-by-year to December to search for Christmas photos.

Deleting photos has become an impossible mission for many:

1 star for the latest update. You cannot delete the images and delete them on the device, so you have to do the job 2 times. In theory, it sends them to a trash can, which does not appear in the app. On the other hand, now it does not rotate the screen to play the videos. It seems to be done wrong on purpose.

What do you think of the latest Amazon Photos update? Will the company do anything to improve it or ‘go back’?
