Enabling two-step verification is the most effective way to safeguard any account, including Apple ID. However, what sets Apple apart is the unique approach it takes to verify our identity in the second step. Apple uses not only our own device but also other Apple products that we own to verify our identity.
For instance, if we have both an iPhone and a Mac and two-step verification is activated, we will be prompted to verify on our Mac when logging in on our iPhone, and vice versa. This demonstrates the seamless integration between Apple devices, even in terms of security.
How two-factor identification is activated
There are multiple methods to enable two-step verification, and it works just as well even if you only have one Apple device. However, as mentioned earlier, having two devices with the same ID enabled will make the identity verification process much smoother.
The first method to enable two-step verification is through an iPhone. Firstly, we need to go to Settings and then click on the Apple ID option, which displays our name. After that, we need to select the Password and security option and look for the Two-factor authentication choice. Clicking on that option and following the instructions will activate it. Once the option is enabled, a message reading “Activated” will appear.
Activating two-factor authentication for Apple ID can also be done through the Apple website. To do this, we need to visit the Apple ID website, log in with our credentials, and answer security questions if prompted. Then, we need to navigate to the Update Account Security section and select the Two-factor Authentication option. We can follow the instructions provided to complete the setup process.
To verify our identity using two-factor authentication, Apple sends a six-digit numerical code that we must enter when prompted. If we only have one device, the code will be sent to us via SMS or email. However, if we have multiple devices associated with the same Apple ID, the code will be sent to the device that is turned on and connected to the internet. In this way, we can use the other device to log in to our account.
