Mitsubishi Misola: Windows to Simulate the Natural Light

Mitsubishi has created windows or skylights capable of generating an artificial light very similar to natural light . Exactly, so you have the feeling that sunlight is coming in even if you are working in the basement of an office building. And so do not feel locked up.

The skylight LED that simulates sunlight

Misola-Mitsubishi
I remember a conversation in which they explained to me why most of the shopping centers built years ago had hardly any windows to the street: to prevent the client from having a sense of time. That is, depriving them of seeing if it was still daylight or if it was getting dark, it led to a greater customer stay and increased the probability of consumption.

The problem is that having only artificial light also generates a negative effect on workers, especially in office environments. Because it is easy that if the light is not of quality it generates a somewhat depressing space. Hence the importance of good lighting and the Mitsubishi proposal.

The manufacturer has created some LED skylights that together with its design generate a light similar to natural light. Although it has a small visual trick that is what really allows you to get a greater feeling of being illuminated by sunlight.

As you can see in the video, this Mitsubishi proposal called Misola is not an LED panel anymore. It is embedded in a frame of about 5 cm or so that helps to generate that sense of skylight through a visual trick that consists of illuminating only three of the four internal faces. Thus, the one that does not turn on shows a kind of shadow effect that makes one believe that it is indeed natural light that illuminates.

In addition, there are two more details that are interesting. When several of these proposals are used, they can be configured so that the shadow corresponds equally in each of them according to the position of the sun that has been set. And it can also be set so that, if you want, the color temperature variety and you can see the evolution of the light during the first hours of the day and at sunset.

The big problem, facing a massive implementation is that these artificial windows cost more than 6,000 euros for the basic model and almost 7,000 euros which has programmable functions with automatic timer integration. So you have to think about it, but if you are one of those who work in indoor spaces, surely you value such a proposal.

Other “windows” outside

Being aware of the complicated, if not impossible, that would result in modifying the different office spaces, logic says that solutions in technology will have to be sought. Hence this Mitsubishi Misola skylights. Still, it is not the first of these proposals that seek to offer us a “window” to the outside.

Other manufacturers have launched similar proposals years ago. The big difference is in how the quality of LED panels advances in terms of light quality and control over it. But you may remember other similar products such as CoeLux windows or Philips Hue Aurelle .

Although this covering office needs can also be applied to the home. And if you’re not looking for a window as such, most RGB smart lights offer, through their apps, the ability to configure their light to simulate a sunrise, sunset or even daylight.
