Amazon has one of the best-known book readers on the market, the Kindle. An ereader that thousands of people have at home in Spain and that allows us to send the contents directly from the web page to be able to read them from the device . There are many differences between an electronic reader and a “normal” physical book, but one of them is that the Kindle does not have the original cover of the book when you start reading it or when you have left it resting.
Until now we could see the covers when starting the book or turning it on and thus find the one that interests us, but this function allows us to save it as if it were a real physical book. In other words, it will not make us see them to choose one, but the covers will be shown when the device is on or locked, as if you had a classic book on the table with its cover, although much thinner and with covers that will change depending on the moment. Of course, you must take into account that they will appear in black and white and that they will always appear if you have the cover downloaded in the eBook and there is no error in the format.
It’s called “Display Cover” and it’s a feature launched by Amazon on some Kindle models, although it’s not yet available on all if you have a very old version. Specifically, it is available on all Kindle Oasis and Kindle Scribe models but only on Kindle Paperwhite models from the seventh generation onwards and Kindle models from the eighth generation onwards.
How to activate
Once we have checked if we have any of these models, we can activate the function to have “a real book” on the table, with a cover.
Display Cover or “Show cover” is the tool that Amazon has added to these devices and that allows us to see all the books we have easily on the ereader’s main screen and in a comfortable and attractive way. The covers will be displayed when the device is on the lock screen as long as you activate it from the settings, something that will take you just two minutes.
The first thing you should do is make sure that your Kindle is updated to the latest firmware version available in order to activate the option. Once we have updated the device, we have to go to the configuration section.
- We open the Kindle settings
- We go to the option or section “Device options”
- We look for the “Show cover” section that will appear here
- Activate the option from the settings
Once you have activated it, exit the configuration section and lock the device. You will see the cover of the book appear when it is in sleep mode. If you don’t have the cover, you can search for it by adding it from Calibre , but as long as the books are downloaded from official versions or from Amazon’s online store, they will appear with their corresponding original cover.
